COVINA - A man was arrested Monday after he allegedly released pepper spray in Home Depot and injured those exposed to the irritant. Fernando Rivera, of Covina, is accused of spraying the substance at another customer during a confrontation around 3 p.m. at 900 W. Badillo St., officials said.
Three of the 12 people who were exposed to the pepper spray were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries but one person was taken in critical condition.
The store was closed for nearly two hours as L.A. County Hazmat teams inspected the property and cleared it to reopen.
Devastating Fire Destroys Family Home, Threatens Christmas VALINDA - Los Angeles County Firefighters answer a call of a house fire in the East San Gabriel Valley portion of LA County. Arriving firefighters found a two story single family home with flames leaping out of the second floor windows. An electrical fire had erupted in one of the upper bedrooms of the home that housed 4 generations of a family. A spokeswoman for the family of 12 women said that most of the family’s belongings including all of the Christmas gifts for the 5 children and infants were destroyed in the fire. The 12-minute video shows firefighters attacking the blaze and offering aid to elderly smoke inhalation victim who was later transported to the hospital. Paper Factory Worker's Arm Severed By Machine INDUSTRY - Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to 400 S Stimson (Security Paper Tube Inc.) in the City of Industry to treat a 24-year-old male worker who had his right arm severed at the elbow in an industrial accident. He was airlifted to St Francis Medical Center in Lynwood to undergo emergency surgery. Footage includes emergency workers treating victim and preparing him for airlift. Driver Pulled to Safety By Deputy HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A deputy pulled a driver from his crashed car before it burst into flames. The CHP said the man didn't have significant injuries but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The sheriff's Industry Station got a call about a car hitting a tree in the 1400 block of 7th Avenue. Deputy Abel Jimenez saw smoke and sparks coming from under the hood of the car, removed the semiconscious driver's seat belt and took him out of the vehicle. Another man helped Jimenez move the driver away from the car. Moments later, the Honda Civic exploded in flames.
Worker Dies in Gravel Pit Accident IRWINDALE – Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the Vulcan Materials Co to a rescue call of “men in the water”. Upon arrival rescuers found that a 41 year-old man had jumped into a water filled pit in an attempt to rescue a coworker who had fallen in. The coworker was able to climb back to safety but the “rescuer” slipped under the surface and was not seen again. Fire Department divers found the victim 5 hours later in 42 feet of water. Footage shows the search and recovery with sound bites from a LA Co Fire Official.
